Internal Ballots – 2024

Please see the details of each position being elected below as well as the internal ballot timetables. The elections for the Young Labour National Committee and National Labour Students Committee will take place over the spring. All other internal ballots will take place over the summer months. Both timetables can be found below.

To put your name forward and submit a statement for any of these positions or submit a nomination on behalf of a CLP or affiliated organisation please submit via the Party’s Democracy Portal.

Please note that only CLP Secretaries or Chairs will be able to submit a nomination on behalf of their CLP or relevant equalities branch.

National Executive Committee (NEC) and Party Officers

All positions on the National Executive Committee are to be elected by all eligible members of the Party. All members wishing to stand for the committee must have received the required number of nominations by 11.59, Friday 28 June 2024.

NEC Division III – CLP Representatives
  • nine to be elected, at least four women.
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership.
  • nominated by at least five CLPs before the deadline of 23.59, Friday 28 June 2024
  • elected all eligible members of the party
  • 2 year term
Treasurer
  • one to be elected
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership.
  • nominated by at least five CLPs or one affiliated organisation before the deadline of 23.59, Friday 28 June 2024
  • elected by an electoral college of 50% OMOV of all eligible members and 50% of affiliated trade unions
  • 2 year term
Auditors
  • two to be elected, at least one woman
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership.
  • nominated by at least five CLPs or one affiliated organisation before the deadline of 23.59, Friday 28 June 2024
  • elected by all delegates to Conference 2024
  • 2 year term
NEC Local Government Representatives (Division IV)
  • two to be elected, at least one woman
  • must be a member of the Association of Labour Councillors
  • Nominated by at least 5 Labour Groups, the Group must have a membership of 3 or more members before the deadline of 23.59, Friday 28 June 2024
  • Elected by an OMOV ballot of all eligible ALC members
  • 2 year term
NEC PLP Representatives (Division V)
  • three to be elected, at least one woman
  • must be a member of the Parliamentary Labour Party
  • nominations to be taken in line with the PLP Standing Orders
  • elected by a ballot of all eligible PLP members
NEC Youth Representative
  • one to be elected
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership.
  • must be member under the age of 27 before the deadline of 23.59, Friday 28 June 2024
  • nominated by at least 5 Young Labour Branches or 5 CLPs (where a Young Labour Branch doesn’t exist) or one affiliated organisation
  • Elected by an electoral college of 50% OMOV of all eligible members under 27 and 50% of affiliated trade unions
  • 2 year term
NEC BAME Representative
  • one to be elected
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership.
  • must be member who has self-identified as BAME via Party systems before the deadline of 23.59, Friday 28 June 2024
  • nominated by at least 5 BAME Labour Branches or 5 CLPs (where a BAME Labour Branch doesn’t exist) or one affiliated organisation
  • elected by an electoral college of 50% OMOV of all eligible members who have self-identified as BAME via Party systems and 50% of affiliated trade unions
  • 2 year term
NEC Disabled Members Representative
  • one to be elected
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership
  • must be member who has self-identified as disabled via Party systems at the close of nominations
  • nominated by at least 5 Disabled Members Branches or 5 CLPs (where a Disabled Members Branch doesn’t exist) or one affiliated organisation
  • elected by an electoral college of 50% OMOV of all eligible members who have self-identified as disabled via Party systems and 50% of affiliated trade unions
NEC Welsh Representative
  • one to be elected
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership
  • elected all eligible members of the Welsh Labour Party
  • 2 year term

National Constitutional Committee (NCC)

All positions on the National Constitutional Committee are to be elected by delegates to Conference 2024. All members wishing to stand for the committee must have received the required number of nominations by 11.59, Friday 28 June 2024.

NCC CLP Representatives
  • four to be elected, at least two women.
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership.
  • nominated by at least five CLPs before the deadline of 23.59, Friday 28 June 2024
  • elected CLP delegates to Conference 2024
  • 3 year term
NCC Trade Union Representatives
  • five, at least two must be women
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership
  • nominated by at least one affiliated trade union. All other submissions will be treated as supporting nominations.
  • elected by trade union delegates to Annual Conference 2024.
  • 3 year term

National Policy Forum (NPF)

All positions on the National Policy Forum are to be elected by all eligible members of the Party. All members wishing to stand for the committee must have received the required number of nominations by 11.59, Friday 28 June 2024.

NPF CLP Representatives (Div I)
  • 55 to be elected, five shall be elected from Scotland, Wales and the English Regions. One shall be reserved for a Young Labour member with two of the remaining four reserved for women.
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership.
  • nominated by at least three CLPs within the relevant region or nation.
  • elected by all members of the Party from within the relevant region or nation.
  • 2 year term
NPF Trade Union Representatives (Div II)
  • 55, at least 27 women.
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership
  • nominated by at least one affiliated trade union. All other submissions will be treated as supporting nominations.
  • elected by all trade unions affiliated to the Party as of the 31 December 2023.
  • 3 year term
NPF Local Government Representatives (Div IV)
  • 10, four each to be elected by the Local Government Association Labour group and the Association of Labour Councillors, at least two each of whom shall be women; and one representative of the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities Labour group and one from the Welsh Local Government Association Labour Group.
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership
  • Nominated by at least five Labour Groups consisting of at least 3 or more members. All other submissions will be treated as supporting nominations.
  • Four chosen from amongst the Local Government Association Labour group and four elected amongst all ALC members.
  • 2 year term.
NPF Socialist Society Representatives (Div V)
  • six, at least 3 women
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership
  • nominated by at least one affiliated socialist society. All other submissions will be treated as supporting nominations.
  • elected by all socialist societies affiliated to the Party as of the 31 December 2023.
  • 2 year term
NPF PLP Representatives (Div VI)
  • nine, at least four women
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership
  • elected by all Commons members of the Parliamentary Labour Party.
  • 2 year term
NPF House of Lords Representatives (Div XIV)
  • two, at least one woman
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership
  • elected by all Labour peers.
  • 2 year term

Women’s Conference Arrangements Committee (WCAC)

All positions on the Women’s Conference Arrangements Committee are to be elected by all delegates to National Women’s Conference 2024. All members wishing to stand for the committee must have received the required number of nominations by 11.59, Friday 28 June 2024.

WCAC CLP Representatives
  • three to be elected
  • must have at least 12 months continuous membership.
  • nominated by at least five Women’s Branches or CLPs before the deadline of 23.59, Friday 28 June 2024
  • elected CLP delegates to National Women’s Conference 2024
  • 2 year term
