Ask a question to Yvette Cooper

HousingThe task of this Queen’s Speech is to respond to the rising aspirations of the British people by delivering new and better opportunities for all.

Labour believes that everyone deserves a place they can be proud to call home, at a price they can afford. The recent Housing Green Paper set out our plans to deliver 3 million new homes by 2020. At the same time we announced £8bn for affordable housing which will deliver 70,000 affordable homes a year by 2010, of which 45,000 will be social housing.

We are building new homes for hard-working families, responding to the change people need by giving first-time buyers help to get onto the housing ladder, while ensuring the long-term environmental sustainability of our future housing.

The Housing and Regeneration Bill announced in the Queen's Speech is the next step in delivering sustainable homes and communities for future generations.
