Yvette Cooper MP, Shadow Home Secretary, responding to the tragic news of the death of two police officers in Manchester today, said:
“This is tragic and deeply distressing news.
“My thoughts are with the families of both officers who tragically lost their lives today doing their job protecting the public.
“This is a painful demonstration of how police officers put themselves in harm’s way to keep people safe.
“We should pay tribute to the bravery of the two officers today who have given so much, and our thoughts are also with their friends and colleagues in Greater Manchester Police. This is a tragedy that will be felt throughout the country.”
