Caroline Flint MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, commenting on research by the consumer group Which? that reveals that the biggest energy companies are being beaten by smaller suppliers on customer satisfaction despite dominating the energy market, said:

"This is yet more evidence that Britain’s energy market is broken. Families and pensioners are sick and tired of huge bills and poor customer service from the big six energy companies. Unless the energy giants start to rebuild people’s trust by dropping their prices and ending the sharp practices, more and more people will look elsewhere for their gas and electricity.

"The time has come for a complete overhaul of our energy market. We need a One Nation Labour government to break the dominance of the energy giants, protect vulnerable customers from being ripped off and create a tough new energy regulator with the power to force energy companies to pass on savings to consumers."
