Kate Green MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Equalities, commenting on the implementation of age discrimination regulations, said:
“We welcome the long overdue implementation of Labour’s age discrimination regulations. When we know, for example, that women over 65 are more likely to die from illnesses like breast cancer because they are ‘under-treated’, we must realise that too often, older people have not been treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve. This is simply unacceptable in 21st century Britain.
“It is disappointing, however, that the Government still refuses to implement other provisions from Labour’s Equality Act, including dual discrimination provisions that could make it easier to challenge the multiple layers of discrimination some older people face, such as the toxic combination of ageism and sexism.”
