Tories can't be trusted with business success - Hutton
John Hutton MP, Labour's Business Secretary, today said:
"By opposing Heathrow expansion and now casting fresh doubt on their support for new nuclear power, the Conservatives have today shown they are too weak to take the major decisions so businesses and the economy can succeed.
"First David Cameron said nuclear was a 'last resort', then they told people they were in favour of nuclear power, but now Alan Duncan has gone back to saying the Tories are not convinced new nuclear is necessary - only that it 'may' be needed.
"Sitting on the nuclear fence and pandering to fashionable causes is no longer an option for the Tories - we need to say yes to new nuclear now so investors have the certainty to build new stations as quickly as possible to stop us being dependent on foreign gas supplies in the future. Businesses recognise that energy security is vital for our future - so they will be dismayed by Alan Duncan's latest flip-flop on nuclear power."
