Pat McFadden MP, Labour's Business Minister, responding to this morning's comments from Caroline Spelman committing the Tories to scrapping the planning framework aimed at speeding up decisions on nuclear power, transport capacity and other infrastructure, said:
"These comments put the Conservatives at odds both with business and the country's economic future.
"Business will be perplexed today when they read of the Tories' commitment to immediately scrap the planning framework designed to speed up decisions on much needed infrastructure such as nuclear power, transport capacity, and other critical projects.
"We need world class transport links and we need a planning system which gives the private sector the confidence it needs to invest in the country's infrastructure - such as new low carbon energy capacity and the thousands of new green jobs which will go with it."
