Sadiq Khan MP, Labour's Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on the Government confirming they will honour Labour’s scheme for compensating victims of overseas terrorism, said:
"After two years of waiting, today is a victory for the dedicated campaigning by the innocent victims – and the families – of those caught up in overseas terrorist atrocities. However, there is no reason why these can’t be paid out now rather than April 2013 – there is no excuse for yet more delay.
"While no amount of compensation can erase the trauma of those who experienced terrorist attacks such as those in Bali and Mumbai, the compensation will in many cases make some contribution to the quality of life of the victims. It is a disgrace that it has taken so long for the Tory-led Government to honour the cross-party agreement to compensate victims of overseas terrorism agreed to back in 2010."
