Arrived by Virgin express at 8.43 to visit the proposed site for Birmingham's new high-speed rail station at Curzon Street (the original terminus for the London to Birmingham line in the 1830s) with Erdington candidate Jack Dromey.
Jack and I walk across to Moor Street Station, which has been beautifully restored to its Edwardian splendour by Chiltern Railways and recently won a major heritage award. The Labour government recently agreed a £250m upgrade scheme with Chiltern Railways, which will reduce the Chiltern Line journey time to London to barely an hour and a half.
It is a great example of Labour investing in today's railway, as well as planning for a high-speed future.
Then back on the train to Wolverhampton to join Rob Marris's campaign in Wolverhampton. We visit the site of the new bus station, made possible by £23 million of new investment, and the Wolverhampton terminus of the tram to Birmingham which is to be be extended through the city centre to New Street station by means of £120 million investment. Great examples of Labour's commitment to public transport making a real difference.
Jack Straw is due to arive with his soapbox this afternoon in an hour, for a stint in Queen Square taking on all comers. By then I will be on my way to Dudley, going on from there to Stourbridge and Worcester. I then take the last Cotswold Line train of the day to Oxford - right through David Cameron's Witney constituency, but I won't be getting off the train.
