Tom Greatrex MP, Labour's Shadow Energy Minister, commenting on the announcement today by Centrica, owners of British Gas, that they are to cut 2,300 jobs, on the same day they announced annual profits of £2.4bn, said:
"This is a bitter blow for Centrica's employees in the UK.
"People will find it hard to understand why thousands of jobs are being cut on the very same day Centrica announced billions in profits.
"Millions of families and small businesses are struggling with their energy bills, yet big companies like British Gas owners Centrica are enjoying bumper profits.
"Centrica must be clear with the workforce. Employees and their families need clarity on exactly where jobs will be cut and what the future holds for them."
