As a Labour Party activist, surely the sweetest words you can hear are, “That house there: all solid Labour”. Well, I’ve been hearing that a lot in the last hour. I’ve been out canvassing with Fiona MacTaggart, MP for Slough, and her team of volunteers. We set out round the streets of Wexham in Slough. The team, rallied by organiser Natasa Pantelic had been out in Kedermister this morning and Fiona was getting a great reception.
I talked to Fiona about local issues in Slough. She told me, “I learn so much from the constituents I meet canvassing, and today I’m learning how many people love watching the Grand National! What we’re hearing most is that they don’t trust the Conservatives. They don’t believe Cameron – they think he’s spinning…People are worried about jobs, getting a job or keeping their jobs. What’s clear is that Conservative policies will actually put the recovery at risk.”
Fiona had some great advice to first time voters “By not voting you’re saying that you trust everyone else to make decisions about your future more than you trust yourself. I don’t believe that’s the case.”
Natasa told me,“We have so much fun out on the campaign – we always come out in a group and have a great time. My favourite thing about Slough is the people!”
