Standing up for the many, not the few

Standing up for the manyLabour has taken tough action to cut crime and tackle anti-social behaviour. Extra bobbies on the beat are having an effect.

But there are still problems of concern, like anti-social behaviour, so we will go further.

Too often a few problem families can cause havoc in our communities, so we will increase the number of families given intensive, hard-edged support.

Every time a young person breaches an ASBO, an order will be put on them and their parents. If it’s broken there will be tough sanctions against the parents.

And we will crack down on alcohol-related disorder, including giving councils the power to ban 24-hour drinking.

LABOUR’S RECORD

  • Overall crime has fallen by over a third since 1997
  • Violent crime is down by 41 per cent
  • Murder rate down to a 20 year low

With Labour...

  • New guarantees on police response times and a pledge that your neighbourhood policing team spends at least 80 per cent of its time on the beat in your community.
  • A firm but fair system for immigration. Our Australian-style Points-Based System will ensure that only those with the skills that we need to build a stronger economy can come here.

Are the Tories a change you can afford?

  • The Tories proposals for DNA evidence would seriously weaken the ability to investigate and convict criminals, including suspected murderers and rapists - putting the public at greater risk.
  • The Tories refuse to match our commitment to protect front-line policing.
