Following reports that soldiers were sacked days before being entitled to service pensions in order to cut costs, Labour’s Shadow Defence Minister Russell Brown MP said:
“Ministers must urgently clarify the criteria used for these sackings.
“Denying soldiers a deserved pension would be as disrespectful as it is deplorable.
“Savings have to be found but it is unacceptable that those who have put in years of courage and sacrifice would be treated this way.
“Ministers need to speak personally to the friends and families of those sacked, as well as the service-leavers themselves, to explain what has happened.”
