Prime Minister and Home Secretary should be supporting police not spinning them - Coaker

12 August 2011

Vernon CoakerVernon Coaker MP, Labour's Shadow Home Office Minister, said:

"It is wrong for the Home Secretary and the Prime Minister to try to take the credit for tough and correct action taken by the police while at the same time trying to pass the buck for any criticisms back to them.

“The Government should not be playing politics with public safety at any time but it is extremely disappointing that this is happening now.

“Instead of the Prime Minister and Home Secretary spinning the police they should be supporting them. It is incredible that the Government remain hell bent on cutting over 16,000 police officers at the very time that they are needed more than ever."
