Labour is clear that schools should not be run for profit - Twigg

10 January 2013

Stephen TwiggStephen Twigg MP, Labour's Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on reports this evening on schools being run for profit, said:

"Labour is clear that schools should not be run for profit. Our schools are there to provide a good education - not make money.

"Parents will be very concerned at reports that David Cameron plans to allow firms to make a fast buck from their children's education.

"The international evidence from countries such as Sweden shows that allowing companies to profit from schools threatens standards.

"David Cameron's Tories are showing why they are unable to build a One Nation education system.

"Labour believes in raising standards across all schools by focusing on what matters most and that is the quality of leadership and teaching in our schools."
