Stephen Twigg MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to reports that the Government want schools to play a greater role in teacher training, said:
"It's important there is a choice of training providers and that funding reflects the best available evidence, not political prejudice.
"While schools should play a bigger part in training teachers, the Government mustn't remove the role of universities and colleges.
"The Government should support the best courses. Dogma must not interfere with teacher training."
