Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour's Shadow Health Minister, in response to reports that Andrew Lansley's former advisor has accused him of a 'dereliction of duty' over Britain's obesity epidemic, said:
"This humiliating attack for the Health Secretary is further proof that the Government's Responsibility Deal programme isn't capable of tackling the country's obesity challenge.
"The Government's approach relies on a company volunteering to cut fats and sugars in its own products - yet companies aren't bound by the deals and too many of the biggest food producers avoid the programme entirely.
"Andrew Lansley should take this opportunity to reconsider his plans and get an urgent grip on Britain's obesity epidemic."
