Response to Government comments on nurse training - Reed

22 April 2013

Jamie Reed

Jamie Reed MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, responding to the Government’s comments on nurse training today, said:

“While we should look at ways of including more hands-on experience in nurse training, the Government should not be allowed to duck the issue that falling nurse numbers are a real threat to care.

“Understaffing was a major factor in the failings at Stafford Hospital and yet the NHS is now haemorrhaging nurses, with 5,000 fewer since 2010. David Cameron promised to protect the NHS but has given it a toxic combination of cuts and re-organisation, and now patients are paying the price.”
