This report marks a new beginning for England’s forests - Creagh

4 July 2012

Mary CreaghMary Creagh MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, responding to the report of the Independent Panel on Forestry, said:

“Over half a million people signed a petition last year against this out of touch Government’s plans to sell off England’s forests. This report marks a new beginning for England’s forests. Our forests are a much loved part of our national natural heritage, and will play a pivotal role in the green economy and our low carbon future.

“We welcome the Government’s announcement that they will not sell off fifteen per cent of the forests as planned. We look forward to working on a cross-party basis to protect biodiversity, create more woodland and secure access for future generations to enjoy.”
