Liam Byrne MP, Labour's Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, said:
“It beggars belief that this Government has chosen the height of recession to sack more than a thousand disabled workers.
“These Remploy factories are in parts of the country where up to 17 people are chasing every job, and the Work Programme is missing its target for disabled people by 75%, yet still ministers are happy to cut 1,400 disabled workers adrift into the worst job market in a generation.”
