We still have more questions than answers from the Home Secretary about the borders fiasco - Cooper

8 November 2011

Yvette CooperYvette Cooper MP, Labour's Shadow Home Secretary, on continuing questions that need answers on the UK Border Agency, said:

“We still have more questions than answers from the Home Secretary about the borders fiasco.

“It is clear that Theresa May agreed to weaken border checks four months ago, but we still don't know what the Home Office told the UK Border Agency, or what information border staff gave the Home Office about what was going on.

“The Home Secretary still doesn't seem to know what checks were reduced and has done nothing to estimate how many people came through the borders without proper checks in place.

“This debate in Parliament is to get those answers. Until the facts are known we cannot move forward.”
