Prosperity and work policy commission

Introduction
The Prosperity and Work Policy Commission considers Labour’s policy and thinking on the economy and welfare. It considers current issues ranging from the economic recovery, to rights at work, to how Britain should compete in an increasingly globalised economy as well issues around business, jobs and growth.

The economic recovery and the impact of the Government’s decision to cut spending and raise taxes too far and too fast are of central importance to the work of the Policy Commission.  With growth flatlining, unemployment rising, and the Government set to borrow £158 billion more than it expected to last year, the Prosperity and Work Policy Commission is focused on how Labour can best set out an alternative to the Tory-led Government’s reckless policies, through a balanced deficit reduction plan that puts jobs and growth first.

The policy commission has two main roles. As part of the policy development process, the commission engages with local Labour parties, Labour’s affiliates and local communities in producing consultation and policy documents. The other main role is to discuss current issues and submissions from the public; and to feed back to party members and affiliates.   For more information about the role of the Policy Commission, look at our pages on the Partnership in Power institutions – here.
