We'll be maintaining pressure on the Government to ensure these proposals lead to a more accurate electoral register - Khan

9 February 2012

Sadiq KhanSadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on electoral registration, said:

“These are the biggest changes to electoral registration since universal suffrage.

“As a result of the Government’s original plans millions of voters would have not been registered to vote. Therefore I'm pleased the Government has started to see sense and adopted our proposals on shifting the 2013 canvass back to 2014, and to look at civil penalties for those who don't respond to the request to complete an electoral registration form.

“We'll be maintaining the pressure on the Government in the coming months to ensure their proposals on electoral registration lead to a more accurate and complete electoral register.”
