Andy Burnham MP, Labour's Shadow Health Secretary, said in response to today's YouGov poll of NHS staff:
"This poll confirms the growing crisis of confidence in Andrew Lansley and his discredited Health Bill.
"People can see the NHS slipping backwards as the Health Secretary ploughs on with his unnecessary reorganisation. If he was true to his promise to listen to health professionals, he would long since have abandoned his plans.
"Support for his Bill is at such pitifully low levels amongst NHS staff that it is impossible to see how such a huge reorganisation can proceed without putting the service at severe risk.
"Health professionals are opposed to this because they can see it for what it is - a privatisation plan for the NHS. No amount of desperate last-minute concessions will make it acceptable.
"The call on the Government to drop its Bill is gaining both momentum and support from the professions and the public. Labour will this week set out its plans to escalate the Drop the Bill campaign over the coming weeks.
"Nothing matters more to the Labour Party than the NHS and we give the Government the fight of its life to protect it."
