Andrew Gwynne was born and brought up in Denton, Greater Manchester, which he now represents in Parliament.
He served as a Labour Councillor on Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council between 1996 and 2008, and between 2007 and 2010, he served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to a string of Cabinet Ministers, including the Home Secretary and the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families. Between 2010 and 2011 he served as a Shadow Minister for Transport, and since 2011 he has been a Shadow Health Minister. He now covers the public health brief.
He has been MP for Denton and Reddish since 2005, being re-elected in 2015 with an increased majority.
