Caroline Flint MP, Labour's Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, has commented on proposals from OFGEM to improve the way energy companies publish their financial information and called for more transparency in the energy market.
Caroline Flint said:
"People across the country are facing soaring energy bills. For too long, a lack of transparency in the way bills are calculated has left many people feeling ripped off.
"We need to open up the books of the energy giants so that people can see for themselves what price they buy and sell energy at, and whether they are getting a fair deal or not. Ultimately, until the big six energy companies sell all of their energy into a pool, and new companies compete to sell it to the public, we won't get the lower prices and fairer tariffs people need."
