More nurseries are reaching breaking point and more parents are struggling to pay for higher fees - Twigg14 January 2013
Stephen Twigg, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on a survey from the National Day Nurseries Association showing big increases in the numbers of nurseries making redundancies and parents unable to pay nursery fees, said:
"While Ministers dither, more nurseries are reaching breaking point and more parents are struggling to pay for higher fees.
"Families need help now but after two years, while family budgets have been squeezed, the Government still hasn’t come up with a plan to assist parents with childcare costs.
"Now the Tories want to cut nursery staff and increase the number of toddlers they look after which experts warn won't help with costs and could threaten child safety."
