Andy Burnham MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to reports that the Department of Health has proposed that everyone aged between 40 and 72 will be offered a regular free ‘health MoT’ by their local authority, said:
"Labour announced the expansion of screening during our time in government and Andrew Lansley described it as a 'desperate gimmick'. Now he's chasing Christmas headlines by re-announcing Labour's health checks for 40-74 year olds himself.
"The Tories are desperately trying to distract attention from the chaos of the reckless NHS reorganisation they'd repeatedly ruled out. It seems the only good headlines this Tory-led Government can get on health are for ideas they've stolen from Labour.”
