How to seriously reduce crime and tackle the crime versus punishment argument. solution= when a young offender (16 to 25 years old) is up before the judge and found guilty for what should be custodial offences give them an option. answer) take a five year term in the army or 10 years in prison, if the army kicks them out within the five years for any reason, they have to serve 10 years in prison from the date they are kicked out of the army, Reward= if they serve the five years with no penalties they get NO criminal record. it is so simple you are giving them incentive, and benifits: 1)Army recruitment UP 2)prison places DOWN 3) responsible citizens and non reoffender at the end of the term MAYBE.

Bring back LAW and ORDER when are you going to learn that the thugs on the streets dont care what you say because they know that the law is on there side. So what is the point of putting more Pcso's or plastics as the kids call them on the streets as they dont have many powers in the first place. there a daft idea. Ask yourselves Why it is 17 teenagers have been brutally stabbed to death this year so far. And all the celebritys commiting crimes like drugs attacks etc all released, what message is being sent out to our youth. You have the POWER to make a change do it or regret it. THE CHOICE IS YOURS.

Why do we need a police presence in every community. Many of us still live in areas not devastated by mindless youth who have lost all sense of hope and whose role models seem to be the likes of Russel Brand. Lets focus spending on areas that need it. And lets get our priorities right - I still see far more police on motorways than I ever see in our towns. Incidentally Ms Smith, have you ever thought part of the problem with youth might be that a lot of our police are simply scared of going into some of then really difficult areas. I would be and I think I can look after myself pretty well. I also think we need to focus on effect6ive discipline in schools - 15 year old lads (in a group) are never going to respond effectively to now predominantly female teachers.

I welcome every neighbourhood having their own police team, but how do you define neighbourhood? We no longer have a full-time police officer in our ward, we got an excellent PCSO, but the Chief Constable has decided that funding is too low to let us continue with a full-time PCSO, and the community has to pay £7,500 per annum to keep her. County Council (Tory) has insisted their contribution goes to education PCSOs who will mostly work in nearby town with secondary schools. Will we get one PC for our village, or will our neighbourhood be defined as the general area, allowing constabulary to move them elsewhere, or force us to share?

We want police on the streets - not another crazy idea from the government. For example, I feel unable to walk home from work from W10 to W2, as I consider it to be too dangerous! If more police were visiblly walking around, not in cars, at all times of day, instead of filling in forms, the streets would be much safer. When is this government going to listen to the people who pay its wages?

Abolish the Crown prosecution service and use the money for more police officers! Simple!

I like the sound of this idea - will it, or can it be linked in with Neighbourhood Watch schemes which similarly promote communication between the public and the police?

This announcement on neighbourhood policing illustrates what is wrong about much of what the government does. I'm sure its a great initiative but what is it? The statement is so obscure even I as a very active Labour Party member haven't a clue what it supposed to be about. We regularly communicate with the electorate in our ward (and have just won a by-election) and would love to tell people about this scheme - but would anyone know what the initiative was all about from this statement. I think not! Yet on the ground the police here in Preston are doing a great job in the community. The PCSOs are brilliant. The PACT (Police and Community Together) meetings are a very succesful illustration of how opolicing has changed for the beter thanks to Labour. Jacqui Smith - please visit us in Preston and see for yourself!

We have a SNT in the ward, and I think it serves the neighbourhood well. They are a regular team, and are known generally to the community. There is back up available, if needed. I have relied on them to support us against anti social behaviour, and generally we are satisfied with the outcome.

Community input is desirable but needs controlling. Police should go back to not ever being allowed to comment on trial outcomes. I accept there is no doubt unnecessary red tape, but care needs be taken not to remove the accused's safeguards. Liberty depends on the executive (police, civil servant etc) not attempting to do the Judge / Magistrates job for him/her. There is a danger of that happening.

Where are our real policemen on the streets, how can some PC miles away in a control room get to know whats going on in a neighbourhood? We used to have real policemen not virtual policemen, people who we knew and who would give advice and sign applications and we could trust to know the bad from the good where we all lived. Prevention is better than detention but what do you know in charge of a department that will never be fit for purpose. Get rid of these useless community quasi police they just attract ridicule and listening to their blogs they want to be real police and fast. Naturally they do so they can skive off in remote safe locations far removed from the action and the tough job that is community policing in a society that despises what police have become. Harrassing motorists and dishing out crime numbers for insurance. Dont bother me now just go and buy another one. Pleaase let this country return to sanity and lets see real men and women Police on the streets again. What beat am I on???

I would also like to point out that most of the people in the police force leaving positive messages don't seem to have a very good grasp of spelling or grammer. Do you think that says something about: A: The police Force B: Those people that support you C: The type of people drawn to your policies

Agreed Rob; it's done this way to make it easier for minorities to join the police. Either way all the cost will come out of your council tax bill!!

Is it true that you are taking this country down the road of becoming a police state? On what basis do you lock up more people than ever before whilst at the same time saying that crime is falling? is it true that you are incompetent and should resign?

Get real Vince! Police state, are you still in 1968? One of the reasons crime is falling is becasue we have locked so many villains up. By the way, that's a manifesto promise delivered.

While being very welcome,we still have to cope with Operational decisions by our Chief Constable which we do not like. For example we learn of his intention to reduce the hours which our Westhoughton 'Cop Shop' will be staffed and have never been asked if we approve of such action!

I'm also very concern about the closing down of the 101 lines and hope that new funding has been found. I felt that this service provided an excellent service using an easy to remember number for our elderly residents. Whilst crime figures may be dropping, the fear of crime is still a major concern and anything that provides a link to help people feel more secure in their homes is worth its weight in gold. Please bring it back.

dear sir .people outside parlement are very discussted with all of the parties right now.allowing mps to commit fraud.you know what i mean there are many of them .this is tax payers money.why wasent the police called in.if you allow fraud of the tax to be commited in parlement you must open all the prisons and allow all frauders who are doing time to be released with a apology from the goverment.dont they recieve enough money already without fraud.listen to any cafe .work place bar .and you will hear the same things.you cannot allow this to happen if they cause fraud which is a crime.they cannot be mps anymore.or how can any of you be trusted.after hearing what the tory leader said that they voted them in so we have to stand with them if thats the case they should stand in the dock with them.your countries waiting for you to do the right thing.if you cant do it bring somebody in who can go through all the books.with the crime rate in england right now all we need is crime in parlement.how can people causing fraud stop other people doing fraud.i know you wont reply to this.but if you dont well there is no trust.if you do i know you plan to do something about it.lots of people have asked me to wright this letter ans we all are waiting for a answer.dont let it be brotherly love remember you are working for the people of this land.hopeing you will see sense and go onto tv or radio and give your answer to the people.so many people are very very annoyed over this.we must have a honest goverment.all three parties dont seem honest at this time.

i am a 19 yr old student, who i would say shared a common view with 80% of my friends that the new major problem with policing, following the archbishop of Canterbury's speech is that we are making it increasingly hard for ourselves by letting our country that has been lived in by our people for over 1000 years become nothing but a refuge for people who cannot support themselves! i dont want this to be the country my generation are left with, why cant things me simple, i want our country to be our own, not for anyone who feels like it to come and take our land. i feel we need to stand up for ourselves and not become scared of what people may think of us or our english nature. although this may be a controversial issue, and i am in no way supporting any religion or race, but those who are here should stay but i feel that english patriotism is being lost and i would love to hear from someone who disagrees, or would like to give a different view from my own.
