David CameronWhen David Cameron campaigned against the National Minimum Wage, wages of as little as £1.20 an hour were common and legal.

That’s just £1.38 an hour in today’s prices.

So when he tries to tell you that he cares about families and people struggling to make ends meet, just imagine what it would be like to live on £1.38 an hour today.

The counter above shows just how little you would have been paid since Monday morning this week.

David Cameron said the minimum wage "would send unemployment straight back up" but Labour has delivered a rising minimum wage and more people in work than ever before.

Hard working familyThis year marks the tenth anniversary of Labour passing the National Minimum Wage Act. It remains one of the government’s proudest achievements having benefited millions of people.

Almost everyone who works in the UK is legally entitled to be paid the National Minimum Wage – that includes people employed permanently, by an agency, part-time workers, casual workers, or people on a short-term contract.

Everyone deserves a proper wage, and we don’t want to go back to the days when people could earn just £1.20 for an hour’s hard work.

Ten years on Labour is building on this success and strengthening fairness in the workplace by making tips additional to the minimum wage.

The truth about David Cameron: Opposing the minimum wage

When you leave a tip at a restaurant or bar most people do this believing it is going to the staff as an extra bonus. But at the moment this can make up part of a worker's hourly wage.  Labour believes that tips should be additional to the minimum wage and shouldn’t count towards it – sign up and show your support.

Hi,

Did you know that it’s 10 years since Labour passed the National Minimum Wage Act ensuring fair pay for a hard day's work?

Since then, millions of people have benefited – and I want you to see what some people were earning before the NMW.

It’s worth a visit – can you imagine living today on as little as £1.38 an hour?

That’s what people were earning while David Cameron and other Tories were campaigning against the national minimum wage.

It’s something he’ll never tell people in a speech – so let’s get the word out and make sure he can’t run away from that record.

On the site there’s a tool which lets you email this message to your friends (I used it to send you this!) – the tool is on the bottom right hand of this page - labour.org.uk/minimumwage
