PM sees Labour and local business making a difference in Oxford
Gordon Brown has met people benefiting from apprenticeships and working tax credits on a visit to Oxford Bus Company in Oxford with Andrew Smith, Labour MP for Oxford East.
Gordon Brown chose to visit the Oxford Bus Company, which has an excellent record as a good local employer as well as an environmentally friendly business, so he could meet young apprentices and workers who have benefited from Labour's family-friendly measures.
Gordon Brown said: "Oxford Bus Company has an excellent record on apprenticeships and also on flexible working for women returning to the workforce and those with caring responsibilities. These are all areas that the Labour government has encouraged companies to develop and where Oxford Bus Company has been leading the way.
"Meeting workers today, I have been pleased to hear the difference Labour measures have made - such as more modern apprenticeship schemes, working family tax credits and flexible working. But I am certain we can and must do more to help hard working families. That's why it is vital to vote Labour locally on May 1st, so Labour councils can work with this Labour government to pick up the pace of change."
