Lord Hunt's Press Complaints Commission replacement fails fundamental tests - Harman27 March 2012
Harriet Harman MP, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Labour’s Shadow Culture, Media and Sport Secretary, responding to the report of the Joint House of Lords and Commons Committee on Privacy and Injunctions, said:
"We agree with the Select Committee’s view that the PCC’s successor must be independent of both editors and government, and apply to all newspapers.
"We have real concerns that Lord Hunt’s proposals fail these fundamental tests, and his new body will apply not to all papers – only those who opt in.
"Unless the new system is truly independent and covers all newspapers, it will be business as usual – a change of name, but not of substance."
