We all want to feel safe in our homes, on our streets and in our neighbourhoods. People want bobbies on the beat - that’s why Labour has taken the step of giving every area its own Neighbourhood Police Team.

It’s about feeling safe and connected with the people entrusted with protecting Britain’s families.

With a Labour Government all local communities will now have contact details for their policing teams, there will be more dialogue between the police officers and the public, improving the relationship between the two and ensuring our streets are safe.

We know that people wanted their police to be more local, out and about on the streets and forming part of the community.

That’s why the number of police officers has increased under Labour, and why Lara from Hemel Hempstead has noticed a difference in her area.

“I've noticed a difference with community policing especially in the confidence that people have that there's somebody in the neighbourhood they can speak to,” Lara told us.

“Elderly people find it very comfortable to know that there's someone they recognise on their streets and that they feel more comfortable to go out later at night and early in the morning.

“I know it's made a big difference to my mother who knows her Community Policeman by name and who shakes her hand every time she sees him. It's made a difference to how she feels about the community in which she lives.”
