Labour completes its 100 hospitals scheme two years early

St Helens HospitalLatest hospital opens its doors in St. Helens today

Alan Johnson MP, Labour’s Health Secretary, has welcomed the news that the Labour Government’s plan to build, improve, or refurbish 100 hospitals has been completed two years ahead of schedule. The 100th hospital scheme opens its doors and top class care to patients in St. Helens this morning.

Alan Johnson said:

"In the face of Tory opposition Labour is fixing the NHS's hospitals, and quicker than we promised. These 100 hospital schemes mean a modern health service that meets patients' needs for excellent, free healthcare and a fair say in their NHS. Today's success shows our commitment to the NHS in action and delivering real results.

"When Labour proposed more NHS funding to rebuild the health service, David Cameron and the Conservatives voted against it. Labour's investment is improving care and facilities for patients across the country, building new hospitals and bringing older ones up to date. For all David Cameron and the Tories' shallow promises, if they had had their way the NHS wouldn't have got the extra funding.

"Even today, David Cameron's Conservatives would still deny patients the fairer future that Labour's plans for more convenient GP opening, excellent health centres, and NHS reform are delivering.  Only Labour has the values, commitment and passion to deliver a healthy NHS, and a fairer Britain.”
