Yvette Cooper MP, Labour's Shadow Home Secretary, said:
"It is a step forward that the Government is taking our proposals to criminalise stalking seriously and we welcome the apparent change of heart between this afternoon in the Commons and this evening in the Lords about the pace of action needed to support victims.
"But we will keep the Government to its word. We now have a chance to get a new law on stalking on the statute book by the end of March. Our amendment will be reconsidered at third reading of the Protection of Freedom Bill unless the Government brings forward their own proposals at to change the law at that time."
