In these first few days of the campaign for a historic fourth Labour government, there’s been a fantastic atmosphere from campaign staff, volunteers and voters we’re talking to. The energy and enthusiasm of all the Labour volunteers is great to see. The sunshine in London yesterday put a smile on everyone’s face – especially the great kids and proud parents at the Croydon Judo Club where I was lucky enough to join David Miliband and Tessa Jowell, along with candidate Gerry Ryan on a visit.
Parents and kids of all ages were excited to be meeting the Foreign Secretary and told him of their hopes for competing in future Olympics. From Croydon we rushed to Tooting Bec, where David met local MP Sadiq Khan and representatives of the local community at the Tooting Islamic Centre. Cabinet Ministers like David cover a huge amount of ground each day during the campaign and are out meeting people, talking about a massive range of issues, local, national and international. And he didn’t even mind me following him round, snapping photos! Out on visits, your ‘Inside the campaign’ team will be using old and new methods to let you know what life’s really like during the campaign. We’ll be taking pics (check out the Labour Flickr group), and using tools like ‘Audioboo’ to bring you interviews. We’re tweeting from @inthecampaign - so watch this space as we search for WiFi connections across the country!
