Tory-led Government has no solutions to deal with this impending crisis in our prisons - Khan

Sadiq Khan MP, Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on the impending crisis in the prison estate, said:

"Experience of previous winters shows that the prison population tends to increase sharply – and in just one week, the population has risen by 348.

"This Tory-led Government has no solutions to deal with this impending crisis in our prisons – they have cancelled the prison building programme, cut capital spending by 83 per cent and shed 2,000 employees in the prison service.

"The Government is taking huge risks as there isn’t the capacity to cope with a similar rise this year, and is endangering public and staff safety as a result."
