Andy Burnham MP, Labour's Shadow Health Secretary, has commented on Simon's Hughes' call for Andrew Lansley to be sacked and on this morning’s reports on McKinsey consultancy and the Department of Health.
Andy Burnham said:
"The Tory-led Government seems to be in meltdown over the Health Bill. Not only do we have senior Tory Cabinet ministers calling if for it be dropped, we also have senior Liberal Democrats calling for the removal of the Health Secretary on national television.
"The Prime Minister is putting his political pride before the best interests of the National Health Service. It is utterly shambolic and the NHS deserves better."
Andy Burnham said on reports on McKinsey and the Department of Health:
"These reports suggest there are questions for David Cameron to answer about the way he is taking forward his unwanted and damaging NHS re-organisation. Any suggestion of conflicts of interest in the formulation of Government policy are serious. The public needs to be reassured that due process had been followed at all times in taking forward this unpopular and controversial Bill. That's why I'll be writing to the Cabinet Secretary about these reports - so that we can be sure that this matter has been conducted in a way which above reproach."
