Stephen Twigg MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to statistics published by the Department for Education said:
“We have seen that Michael Gove is going back to the future on exams. But the news they don’t want you to know is that they are doing the same on class sizes.
“Under a Labour Government, the numbers of pupils in infant classes larger than 30 fell dramatically – a key pledge in our 1997 manifesto.
“The fact that the number of infant classes is 50% higher today than in 2010 just shows how the Tory-led Government is turning back the clock on one of Labour’s major achievements in giving children the best start in life.”
