Sadiq Khan MP, Labour's Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on the expected statement today on the victims strategy, said:
“We shouldn’t really be surprised that today’s expected statement on the Government’s much-delayed victims’ strategy has been cancelled at the last minute. It’s totally in character for a Tory-led Government that has time and again demonstrated an utter lack of empathy for the needs of victims.
"From the shameful delays to enacting compensation for British victims of overseas terrorist atrocities like Bali and Mumbai and riding roughshod over the concerns of victims with their proposals for a 50% sentence reduction for early guilty pleas through to their ignoring calls to implement a victims’ law; they have repeatedly treated victims of crime with disdain.
"Their shambolic approach continues to show just how out of touch this Government is with the needs and wishes of the country’s law-abiding majority."
