Kings Fund report bears out warnings Government put NHS in precarious position - Burnham28 November 2012
Andy Burnham MP, Labour's Shadow Health Secretary, said in response to the King Fund's report on the Government's health policy:
“This important report bears out Labour’s consistent warnings that the Government has placed the NHS in a precarious position. They have taken unacceptable risks with patient care by reorganising the NHS at a time of financial stress.
“Ministers inherited a successful NHS from Labour and, in just two years, have reduced it to a service that is demoralised, destabilised and fearful of the future.
“They refused to listen to expert warnings, pressed on regardless with their plans to break up the NHS and, sadly, the cracks are now beginning to show.
“A&E is returning to the bad old days with long waits and ambulances queuing outside. Patients are being denied treatment - or forced to go private – as unfair, cost-based restrictions are placed on treatment. A postcode lottery is running riot and, as the King’s Fund makes clear, Ministers’ promises of action have come to nothing.
“David Cameron promised to protect the NHS but instead is bringing it to its knees. He needs to read this report carefully and act quickly to stabilise the NHS before it is too late.”
