Government must act fast to ensure there is a future for solar in the UK for families, community groups and social housing - Flint

19 January 2012

Caroline FlintCaroline Flint MP, Labour's Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, responding to a Government statement on the cuts to the Feed-in Tariffs for solar, said:

"The Government’s chaotic mismanagement of the cuts to tariffs for solar power has led to many projects being ditched and people losing their jobs, and has dealt a hammer blow to the prospects of future investment in the green economy.

"Every day that this uncertainty has continued has put jobs and businesses at risk, and denied families the chance to cut their energy bills. Today the Government must start to clear up the mess they have created. They need to bring forward proposals that guarantee the continued growth of the solar industry, put feed-in tariffs on a sustainable footing and are fair to the public.

"Labour is still calling on the Government to make substantial changes to their proposals, to ensure there can be a future for solar in the UK for families, community groups and social housing."
