Michael Gove and his Education Ministers must explain what has happened to GCSEs - Twigg

23 August 2012

Stephen TwiggStephen Twigg MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, further commenting on GCSE results, said:

"We know how important core subjects like English and Maths are. We need to understand why results have fallen in these subjects. Is it because of pressure from Ofqual to shift grade boundaries?

"Serious concerns have been raised regarding the English GCSE in some quarters. As well as ensuring standards remain rigorous, we must ensure all pupils are treated consistently and fairly.

"If it is the case that pupils from the same year group have been marked more harshly if they entered later, that would be patently unfair.
