Good local councils who work with their residents don't want to cut vital services or put up council tax bills - Hilary Benn

8 December 2011

Hilary BennHilary Benn MP, Labour's Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary, responding to the Local Government Finance Settlement 2012/13, said:

"Last year the Tory-led Government hit the most deprived councils hardest. But instead of listening to the voices of local people desperate for vital services to be saved, this out of touch Government has done the same again.

"Good local councils who work with their residents don't want to cut vital services or put up council tax bills, particularly during these tough times.

"The thing that would make the biggest difference would be a recognition that the Government's economic plan has failed and a change of course to get growth going again."
