Gloria De Piero and Konnie Huq on Gordon's Speech

Last night saw a fantastic event in Manchester's Granada studios. Over 500 Labour supporters and activists gathered to hear Gordon Brown give a brilliant, barn-storming speech. You can see for yourself here.

The event was opened by Labour candidate for Ashfield, Gloria de Piero. Gloria spoke to several members of the audience about why they are voting Labour on Thursday. We heard from Anna-Marie Watters, an 18 year old first time voter and student at Manchester College. Anna-Marie has been impressed by Labour investment in education and worries for her future if there was to be a Tory government.

Gloria introduced Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq, a self-described floting voter, who explained why she is voting Labour on May 6th. Konnie talked about her family's experience of the last recession and how it affected her. With a degree in economics she understands how much the Labour government's actions have laid the groundwork for recovery.

Then, to the music 'Don't stop believing' Gordon Brown came into to huge cheers and a standing ovation. He spoke passionately and with huge energy about the fight in the last 48 hours of the campaign.

"I want to say to those who have yet to decide – listen to what we have to say. When the last 48 hours of this campaign has passed, in that one minute in the polling booth, vote for the kind of country you believe in. And come home to Labour."
