Caroline Flint MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, commenting on SSE’S announcement on their range of energy tariffs, said:
“Energy companies must respond to the confusing array of tariffs, which result in 80% of the public paying more than they need to. Everyone should be able to work out how much they’re paying for their energy and easily compare different tariffs, so they can ditch the ones that are ripping people off.
“Labour is prepared to stand up to vested interests in the energy industry and stop the big energy companies ripping off hard-pressed families and pensioners. We need fundamental reform of the energy market by making the big six energy companies sell all of their energy into a pool, allowing new companies to compete to sell it to the public. This will break the stranglehold of the big six, encourage new entrants, increase competition and drive down energy bills for families.”
