Election Debates

This year’s general election will be a big choice for Britain.

Over the coming weeks everyone is going to get the opportunity to really examine the issues which matter to them, and decide what sort of future we want for this country.

An important part of this process will be the general election Prime Ministerial Debates. These broadcasts will be the first time in a British election that the three party leaders aspiring to be Prime Minister will meet in this way.

The Labour Party want to make sure that everyone has the chance to fully explore the policies and issues raised in the election debates. In the build up to the debates and on the night we’ll be helping you to get your views across so do keep checking our coverage.

With David Cameron and the Conservatives coming under increasing scrutiny, the leaders debates will offer people the opportunity not only to find out more about Labour, but also to take a long hard look at the Tories,

Some more information on the debates

The Prime Ministerial debates will be held between Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg, the respective leaders of the Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat Parties.

The leaders of Plaid Cymru, the Scottish National Party and other parties which don’t seek to represent the whole of the UK, along with other smaller parties, will be able to use opportunities on separate programmes to put their views across.

The three leaders debates will be shown by the BBC, ITV and Sky during consecutive weeks of the general election campaign with each debate lasting for around 90 minutes.
