Stephen Twigg MP, Labour's Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on the Edge Foundation survey which shows 60 per cent of schools are planning to or have cut the provision of vocational qualifications, said:

"This survey shows Michael Gove's narrow, backward looking approach will damage our long term economic prospects.

"Placing no value on subjects that are critical for growth like engineering, computing or construction will undermine our competitiveness.

"We need to raise the quality of vocational training with a gold standard Tech Bacc for students at 18 with work experience placements and more high quality apprenticeships."
