Defection is yet another sign of Assad regime's weakening support - Alexander

Douglas Alexander MP, Labour's Shadow Foreign Secretary, responding to the defection of the Syrian Prime Minister, said:

"This is the highest level defection to date and is yet another sign of the Assad regime's weakening support.

"The regime’s legitimacy has long gone and the international community must be ready for all possible scenarios in Syria, from continuing humanitarian challenges to the need to bring fractured opposition forces together."
