Jon Trickett MP, Labour's Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office, responding to today's Written Ministerial Statement by the Government on lobbying, said:
"Despite promising to act in the Coalition Agreement – and after scandals around ‘cash for access’ right at the heart of his Government - David Cameron has failed to take the action required to clean up lobbying.
"Let’s be clear. There is an important role in a democratic society, government needs to be open to influence from all parts of our society from the smallest neighbourhood group to the largest commercial operators, and so there is a crucial role for lobbying. But it needs to be transparent, accountable and appropriately regulated. Sadly, the Government’s actions have consistently been too little and too late. They have indulged in rhetoric, but have wholly failed to act."
